Essence of freedom.

It is with regret that we announce that Lisa Marie Smith is leaving our practice to pursue a change of career, and to undertake studies in other areas from 2008. Lisa Marie will be with us until Friday 21st December 2007. We have enjoyed our professional association with Lisa Marie and would like to wish her every success in the future.

Be informed about obesity.

(extracted from www.chiropractors.asn.au)
Obesity rates have more than doubled in last 20 years and 25% of Australian children are obese (www.asso.org.au). In 1995 the number of pre-obese and obese Australians was 52% of all men and 37% of all women This number increased to 62% of men and 45% of women in 2004/5 (National health survey, 2004 -2005. ABS: Jamison, 2007) . Being overweight or obese can substantially increase your risk of developing health problems such as high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol which can lead to heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and joint and back problems. These are the leading causes of death and disability in this country. In 1993 obesity cost Australians $841 million - 12% of the health budget (www.ntrnrc.gov.au/publications/synopses/_files/n33.pdf).

Am I Overweight?

One easy way to check is by calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI). Your BMI = W(kg)  ÷ H² (m).
Ideal Weight BMI = 19-24
Overweight BMI = 25-30
Obese BMI = 30+

Tips for weight control.

How to reduce energy intake.
• Aim for at least 5 serves of vegetables a day. (salads, cooked vegetables, etc - try adding some at each meal time).
• Aim for at least 2 serves of fruit per day.
• Choose low-fat dairy products.
• Choose lean meats and trim the fat off. Limit processed meats like sausages and salami.
• Limit high-fat take away foods to once a week.
